The White House said Friday morning that President Bush called Attorney General Michael Mukasey to check on his condition after Mukasey collapsed while giving a speech Thursday night.
White House press secretary Dana Perino e-mailed reporters early Friday to say the president had spoken to Mukasey before 7 a.m., and she said the attorney...
The first Article of the Bill of Rights in our Constitution prohibits Congress from denying the American people the freedom of speech and the freedom of association. Our Founders recognized that these rights were fundamental to a peaceful political process and to the future of our democracy. More than two centuries later,...

The Great Minnesota Recount kicked off Wednesday with masses of volunteers for Republican U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman and Democratic challenger Al Franken moving into a fresh phase of the struggle: eyeballing the first of 2.9 million ballots, ready to pounce on anything that looked questionable.
A state appeals court has agreed with a ruling that Gov. Rod Blagojevich must make public federal subpoenas received by his administration.
The legal decision, which was handed down Wednesday, upheld a trial court ruling that called on Blagojevich to release the subpoenas sought under a Freedom of Information Act request filed by...
SPRINGFIELD — Two newly chosen legislative leaders came out Thursday calling for a breakthrough on a long-stalled statewide construction program and hopeful a new era will lead to cooperation with Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Sen. John Cullerton (D-Chicago), who will ascend to Senate president in January, and Sen. Christine Radogno (R-Lemont),...
THE ISSUE: The Republican Party in Illinois is in desperate need of new leadership and fresh ideas, not unlike the national party.
WE SAY: The selection of Christine Radogno to lead the state's Senate Republicans is a move in the right direction. We believe she'll get the job done.
Illinois isn't yet halfway through its 2008-09 fiscal year, and the full effects of the nation's economic doldrums haven't yet descended on the bean counters in Springfield. But the trajectory is obvious: The office of the governor projects a budget shortfall of some $2 billion and says revenues from income and sales taxes are short of...
Finally, some good news out of Springfield. The Illinois Senate Democrats and Republicans chose new leaders Wednesday night without much drama or rancor.
And, most important, they chose quality leaders committed to getting the state Legislature functioning again.
For the last two years, the state's top three Democrats...
Gov. Rod Blagojevich is the most unpopular, least trusted public official of any stature in Illinois, and perhaps America, if his dead-last 13 percent approval rating is any indication.
For that reason, count us among the skeptical that Blagojevich will be given any more power than he already has to address the state's budget...
There was a bright spot to Tuesday's election results in Rock Island County for the Republican Party. Newcomer Rich Morthland from Cordova retained the one seat on the County Board that Republicans have held for two terms. Rich replaced County Board member James Sallows, who stepped down. With the final vote in, Rich defeated Democrat candidate Michael Smiddy 1,716 to...
The Rock Island County Republican Party had their first annual lower county barbeque on Saturday, October 18th at the Illinois City Community Hall. About 70 supporters showed up to hear what guest speaker State Senator Dale Righter from Mattoon had to say about the state of Illinois politics. State Senator Righter was here on behalf of State Senate Candidate Mike Bertelsen.
More than 60 people showed up on Sunday, September 21st to lend their support to Emmett Granado, candidate for Rock Island County Board. Stephens Park in Moline was the backdrop for the festive event, complete with taco dinner and pinatas for the kids. Rich Morthland, Rock Island County Board candidate from Cordova, spoke about the similarity between Republican and Hispanic...
The day of the Rock Island County Republican Party BBQ started very rainy and gloomy. But even though the golf outing and antique show had to be cancelled, the sun came out just in time for a beautiful night of good food, inspiring speeches, good music, and camaraderie among friends.
163 supporters were on hand for the event. Blackhawk College Jazz Band did a wonderful...
Port Byron was the place for the annual Tugfest. Friday night the 8th was truly spectacular with the fireworks display over the Mississippi River. There were plenty of people to talk to and I thank Rich Morthland, Rock Island County Board candidate for his hospitality.
The consensus was change in state government. Most people I talked to don't feel that they're...
Republican Nominee for State Representative Lawrence Bruckner Endorses "Agenda for Action"
Moline, IL…Candidate for State Representative of the 71st District Lawrence Bruckner joined 51 Republican House members and a dozen key challenger candidates in endorsing the "Agenda for Action" to get Illinois back on track. The seven point agenda will create jobs,...
The Mercer County Fair went very well. The traffic in the Merchant's Building was excellent this year as we "worked" the Republican booth. Most comments I received were those about change in state government. People know that state government in Illinois isn't working right and are concerned about higher taxes and the loss of functionality from their taxpayer dollars.
While at the Rock Island County Fair on the 17th, I took time out to look at the exhibits. Several caught my eye and I was glad to talk to folks about the campaign. The theme has not changed....we need change.
They are not satisfied. For your info, Illinois, California, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania did not have budgets in by the start of their fiscal years as...
The Blackhawk College Republicans will be holding thei...
